Rocketbook

As leaders in the online education development community, we are always looking for projects and opportunities that enable us to provide our nation's youth with more efficient ways of absorbing information. That's why, when RocketBook first approached us with a general concept for a site redesign, we jumped on board whole-heartedly.

During the initial stages of strategic planning, SingleMind worked closely with RocketBook to design an experience that was not only effective, but utilized powerful open-source technologies with the muscle to bring what was needed to the table. It was decided that Drupal would take its place as the proverbial 'backbone' of the site.

One of the new Drupal modules we developed for this project is what we call a "Cred" module. We have of course contributed it to the Drupal community. This module allows users to create nodes that are then graded by other users. These grades are compiled into a user's Cred Point Average (or CPA), which is displayed on their profile page. We used Jyte as our inspiration for this module. Our goal was to create a fun way for users to create content, spur discussion, and generate reputation all at the same time.

Another challenge of crafting a feature-packed social networking sites is making sure there's a simple, fun, and efficient way of showing the user exactly what they want to know. To this end we created a custom "Home Page" module that provides a convenient dashboard for all our functionality to hook into. From a user's home page, they can quickly see information on their friends, updates to their bookmarked content, and much more.

In addition to creating an entirely custom visual design for Rocketbook, we utilized the full strength of Drupal's theming engine to create a sleek, modern design. Wherever possible, pages use AJAX to present information to the user, ensuring smooth navigation and seamless functionality.

The advantage of using an open source platform like Drupal is that we were able to leverage the incredible work of the community. We were able to extend modules such as Buddylist and Guestbook to provide our own implementation of "Friends list" and "Profile comments", respectively.
